Built between 1775 and 1778 by the Duke of Choiseul, this architectural &#8220;folly&#8221; is the last vestige of the sumptuous Domaine de Chanteloup, destroyed in 1829. <\/p>\n\n<p>The construction of this <strong>&#8220;Monument dedicated to Friendship&#8221;<\/strong> symbolizes the gratitude of the Duke of Choiseul to his friends who remained faithful to him despite his disgrace at the court of King Louis XV, and retains the signature in Chinese characters.<\/p>\n\n<p>Spectacular from the top of its 44 meters, the Pagoda of Chanteloup <strong>embodies the perfect alliance between architecture and Chinese cosmology <\/strong>: at the convergence of seven forest alleys, one accesses by seven steps the seven levels of the Pagoda which house the eight trigrams of the I Ching and the eight winds, to reach the summit surmounted by a golden sphere, a Taoist symbol of universal harmony.  <\/p>\n\n<p>It is <strong>a witness to the<\/strong> <strong>mutual curiosity between the France of the Enlightenment and imperial China.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>The Pagoda of Chanteloup is in danger today<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>After surviving the Revolution and the demolition of the castle thanks to the future King Louis-Philippe, and then the commitment of the Andr\u00e9 family since 1909, <strong>the Pagoda faced the challenge of the wear and tear of time.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Two architectural diagnoses have been carried out, on the initiative of the owners and the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs of the Centre-Val de Loire Region and the conclusions are clear: <strong>The Pagoda of Chanteloup must be saved!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>The Restoration Project allows you to transmit a Living History<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>The Friends of Chanteloup association, supported by the French History Society of China, is therefore launching a <strong>large-scale programme for an amount of \u20ac6.6 million aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the site<\/strong> :<\/p>\n\n<p>1. Complete rehabilitation of the Great Basin: Restore the waterproofing and hydraulic structures to stabilize the foundation of the monument.<\/p>\n\n<p>2. Complete restoration of the Pagoda: Masonry, sculptures, staircases and joinery will be entrusted to craftsmen to restore the monument to its 1778 splendour.<\/p>\n\n<p>3.
